South African national team coach Hugo Broos admitted his team was outclassed in terms of power and speed after losing 0-1 to Canada in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup.
According to Broos, the difference in power and tempo of play was the main factor that stopped Bafana Bafana's progress in the tournament.
"I think we have to be honest that we lost today because our team lacked power and speed. Compared to our opponents, we lost in many duels, and our team's speed, not just our running speed but also our speed in executing plays, wasn't at the same level," Broos said, as quoted by CNA on Monday.
South Africa's campaign at the 2026 World Cup came to an end after conceding an injury-time goal and losing 0-1 to Canada. Broos assessed that their opponents were indeed the better team throughout the match.
The 74-year-old Belgian coach praised Canada's play, which he considered capable of building attacks at a high tempo. Conversely, he criticized the South African players for taking too long to make decisions, making it difficult to keep up with their opponents.
