The physical size of the iPhone 18 Pro's main camera module is rumored to be larger than its predecessor, so the rear camera bump will be thicker by about 2 millimeters.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have been rumored to feature variable aperture main cameras. This feature alone could result in a larger camera module.
Variable aperture allows the camera to adjust the lens opening to suit lighting conditions, thereby improving photo quality in a variety of situations.
In addition to embedding that feature, Apple could use a larger camera sensor on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The use of a larger sensor will also contribute to an increase in the size of the rear camera module.
