Canadian national team player Jonathan David scored three goals to lead his team to a 6-0 victory over Qatar in their second Group B match at Vancouver's BC Place Stadium on Friday, Western Indonesian Time.
From the start of the match, Canada immediately took the initiative, attacking with a high tempo and intense pressing , making it difficult for Qatar to develop their game. This dominance paid off in the 16th minute when Cyle Larin opened the scoring.
Starting from a quick attack down the wing, the ball was sent into the penalty area, and Larin, unmarked, managed to meet the pass with a well-placed shot that beat the Qatari goalkeeper. The score changed to 1-0 for Canada.
After taking the lead, Canada didn't let up the pressure. Instead, they increased the intensity of their attacks, putting Qatar's backline under constant pressure.
In the 29th minute, Canada doubled its lead through Jonathan David. The goal stemmed from a well-placed attack from the right flank that resulted in a cross into the penalty box. David, perfectly positioned, met the ball with a composed and precise finish to put Canada 2-0 up.
As the first half drew to a close, Qatar struggled to escape the pressure. Their defense was constantly forced to work hard against waves of Canadian attacks. As a result, in the 45+3 minute, Jonathan David got on the scoresheet again.
The goal came from a chaotic situation in front of the Qatari goal after repeated Canadian pressure resulted in a loose ball falling to David, who easily slotted home his second goal and Canada's third. The first half ended with a 3-0 lead.
