The 2026 Olympic West Java Amateur Open (OJAO) tournament will provide a training ground for 108 amateur golfers from 15 provinces in Indonesia to hone their skills and prepare for national and international championships.
Chairman of the 9th OJAO Tournament Committee, HM Sirodzudin, said the tournament, which is entering its ninth edition, will take place at the Gunung Geulis Golf & Country Club, West Course, Bogor, West Java, from June 30 to July 2, 2026.
"This tournament features top amateur players from across Indonesia. As we know from the previous eight years, this tournament has produced amateurs who have now become professionals and become mainstays of the Indonesian national team," Sirodzudin said in an official statement on Thursday.
Sirodzudin said the 108 participants consisted of 80 male golfers and 28 female golfers who came from various regions, including Bali, Banten, Bengkulu, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Papua, North Sumatra, and South Sumatra.
According to him, OJAO, which is organized by the West Java PGI Provincial Executive Board together with the Olympic Golf Club, is one of the national amateur tournaments that has been consistently held since 2015.
The tournament was not held in 2019 and 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2023 because it coincided with the qualifying rounds for the National Sports Week.
Sirodzudin explained that OJAO plays an important role as a forum for developing young talent, as well as a means of preparing athletes for championships at the national, regional, and international levels.
He mentioned that a number of OJAO champions are still active in the world of golf, including those who remain amateurs and are mainstays of the national team, such as Randy Arbenata Mohammad Bintang and Sania Talita Wahyudi.
In addition, several OJAO alumni have also become professional golfers, including Kevin Caesario Akbar, Naraajie Emerald Ramadhan Putra, Gabriel Hansel Hari, Amadeus Christian Susanto, Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri, Ika Woro Palupi, and Natalia Kristina Yoko.
"The Indonesian Football Association (PB PGI) fully supports and hopes that this tournament will be a success and produce high-achieving players to represent the national team," said Sirodzudin, who is also the Chairman of the West Java PGI Provincial Executive Board.
Olympic Golf Club patron Vicky Tjong said the sponsorship of this year's OJAO has met expectations. He hopes the tournament will run smoothly over three days, with 18 holes per day, for a total of 54 holes.
"We hope this tournament will run smoothly and produce achievements for golfers in Indonesia," said Vicky.
Meanwhile, Olympic Golf Club Founder Au Bintoro said the initial aim of organizing OJAO was to provide a competitive platform for Indonesian amateur golfers to be better prepared for international events.
"So, OJAO's main goal is to develop and provide opportunities for junior golfers throughout Indonesia to achieve their goals," said Au.
Head of the Competition Division, Dian Mariyun, added that because it has open tournament status, OJAO can be participated by associations, city/district administrators, and provincial administrators.
He said OJAO was also held on an international scale in 2018. In addition to the main match, this year's event also included a charity tournament on the third day.
