The Ghana national team is heading to the 2026 World Cup with high ambitions to repeat their best performance in the world's most prestigious football event.
The team nicknamed the Black Stars has secured its place in the World Cup finals for the fifth time after qualifying from the African zone qualifying round.
Ghana previously appeared in the 2006, 2010, 2014, 2022 editions, and will now compete again in 2026.
History records Ghana's best achievement at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa when they advanced to the quarter-finals.
Ghana nearly became the first African nation to reach the semi-finals before being eliminated by Uruguay on penalties in what is remembered as one of the most dramatic matches in World Cup history.
Entering the 2026 edition, Ghana hopes to repeat the feat after their last two appearances ended in the group stage. At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Black Stars failed to advance to the knockout stage.
To achieve this goal, Ghana appointed Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as the team's new captain. Queiroz replaced Otto Addo in April 2026 and brings a wealth of international experience.
