Veteran Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has officially left Barcelona to join Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire.
The move was announced by the Chicago Fire on Tuesday, with the contract running through the end of the 2027-2028 MLS season.
In an official statement, Chicago Fire confirmed Lewandowski's signing as a Designated Player , a status that allows MLS clubs to sign star players outside the league's salary cap.
"Chicago Fire FC today announced the signing of world football icon and Poland's all-time leading goalscorer, Robert Lewandowski, as its Designated Player ," the club said in a statement on its official website.
Lewandowski leaves Barcelona after four productive seasons. During his time at the Catalan club, the former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund striker scored 120 goals in all competitions.
Chicago Fire coach Gregg Berhalter enthusiastically welcomed Lewandowski's arrival. He said the striker possesses a winning character that aligns with the club's ambition to compete for titles.
"From the first day I met owner Joe Mansueto, we were determined to build a world-class club that inspires, unites Chicago, and wins championships," Berhalter said.
"Robert embodies these values. He is a champion and a true competitor. His presence further underscores our ambition to win trophies and raise the club's standards to a level worthy of this city," he said.
Lewandowski's arrival marks a prestigious signing for the Chicago Fire. Throughout his career with Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona, he has scored a total of 567 goals in all competitions, making him one of the most prolific strikers in European football history.
