Taufik Hidayat, Deputy Chairman I of the Indonesian Badminton Association , said young Indonesian players should use the 2026 Polytron Indonesia Open as a platform to learn, develop, and gauge their abilities against the world's best players.
According to Taufik, the opportunity to appear in a BWF World Tour Super 1000 level tournament, especially in front of the home crowd at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, is an important experience for the development and regeneration of Indonesian badminton.
"We hope that young Indonesian athletes can make the most of this opportunity. The Indonesia Open is an excellent platform to learn, develop, and measure their abilities against the world's best players. It is through processes like this that the foundation for future achievements is built," Taufik said at a press conference.
Indonesia fielded several young talents in the tournament, which ran from June 2-7. In the men's singles, Alwi Farhan emerged as a mainstay after securing a spot in the main roster alongside Jonatan Christie.
Besides Alwi, Indonesia also has several young players awaiting their opportunities on the reserve list, including Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah, also known as Ubed, and Prahdiska Bagas Shujiwo. Both have the opportunity to feature if any players from the main roster withdraw.
In the women's singles, Indonesia relies on Putri Kusuma Wardani as its sole representative in the main roster. However, several young players, such as Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan and Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya Pratiwi, are also on the reserve list.
