Fire at Mount Chehma in Zaghouan Tunisia

On Monday morning, Tunisian civil protection units managed to control the fire that broke out on Saturday evening in Jebel Chehma in the Bir Halima district of the Zaghouan delegation.

Thirteen fire trucks belonging to the National Office of Civil Protection participated in extinguishing the flames, supported by 10 fire trucks and equipment provided by the General Directorate of Forests, the specialized Civil Protection Unit in Naasan, the National School of Civil Protection, and the Forest Protection Center in Rades, in addition to the support of the regional committees for disaster prevention, response and relief organization in the governorates of Siliana, Ben Arous, Sousse and Kairouan.

Approximately 150 officers and personnel from various branches also contributed to the intervention operations, working continuously and being reinforced throughout the intervention period.

These efforts were reinforced by air interventions carried out by Air Force units using helicopters and C-130 aircraft dedicated to fighting fires, which contributed decisively to containing the fires and limiting their spread.

In this context, the Zaghouan Governorate reported on its official page that the intensive and continuous field interventions lasted for more than 40 hours, and cooling and monitoring operations are currently underway after the various fire hotspots were contained.

The fire damaged significant areas of forest cover, mainly including Aleppo pine forests and Shaaraa forest, in addition to a number of trees in farms adjacent to the forest, pending the completion of the final assessment and evaluation of the damage.

The Zaghouan Governorate stated that, in order to protect residents and property, a number of fire trucks were stationed near homes adjacent to the forest to ensure immediate intervention when necessary, and firebreaks were created around the perimeter of the fire.
