| British news agency reported Migrants cross the English Channel in one boat |
The British Home Office reported that a small boat carrying 128 people crossed the English Channel last Friday, the largest number of people ever to make this journey on a single boat.
The British news agency reported, citing data released by the British Home Office, that "a total of 225 people made the perilous crossing across the English Channel on Friday, using three boats. Around 128 of these people were on one boat, surpassing the previous record for the number of people who crossed on one boat, which was 125, recorded in September 2025."
A spokesman for the British Home Office told the BBC that "this figure, which the BBC was the first to report, reflects the increasing risks that smuggling gangs are more willing than ever to take, with the number of people they cram into unseaworthy boats rising year after year."
Despite breaking the record for the number of migrants crossing in a single boat, data shows that the overall number of migrants crossing the English Channel appears to be declining.
According to the latest data from the British Home Office, approximately 11,884 migrants arrived during the six months from the beginning of January to the end of June.
This number represents a 41% decrease compared to the total number of migrants who arrived in the United Kingdom up to this point last year, which was 19,982 people.
