| Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico Supporting on Ukraine |
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that the final statement of the NATO summit in Ankara will not obligate alliance members to provide any financial support to Ukraine.
"I received a written response from the Secretary General (Mark Rutte) and he clearly stated that the statement to be adopted in Ankara will not obligate any NATO member state to make any financial decisions in favor of Ukraine," Fico said during a press conference on Sunday.
Fico added that he had informed the Secretary General of the Alliance that Slovakia does not plan to participate in any financial mechanisms to support Ukraine militarily.
He said in this regard that "Slovakia will not cover any military expenses for Ukraine, but that does not mean that we are not prepared to provide humanitarian assistance."
He continued: "We are a country that knows there are situations where assistance is necessary, but not with weapons or anything that supports war."
The NATO summit is scheduled to take place in Ankara on July 7 and 8. Media reports have indicated that some member states oppose the alliance's pledge of military support to Ukraine.
