The State of Qatar was subjected to an Iranian attack at dawn today, Friday, as the Ministry of Defense announced in two separate statements the success of the armed forces in repelling a missile attack, before confirming in its second statement the repelling of a number of air attacks.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed that security authorities and civil defense teams have begun their procedures in accordance with the approved response plans following the Iranian attack that targeted the country this morning.
The ministry noted that a child was injured by shrapnel resulting from interception operations, and is receiving the necessary medical care.
The ministry also stressed the need to obtain information only from official sources, and to refrain from circulating rumors or publishing any unreliable information, images or videos, in order to avoid legal accountability.
She noted that the competent security authorities in the Ministry of Interior are continuing their work with full readiness around the clock, which enhances the speed of response, ensures the preservation of the security and safety of society, and the continuation of services in a normal manner.
On the other hand, Kuwait announced on Friday that its territory had been subjected to an Iranian attack targeting one of its power and water desalination plants, while warning that the continuation of these attacks undermines de-escalation efforts and threatens regional security and stability.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that it “condemns in the strongest terms the heinous Iranian aggression with missiles and drones that targeted the territory of the State of Kuwait on Friday, and struck one of the power and water desalination plants.”
She added that the targeting represents “a blatant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.”
She stressed that “the continuation of this aggressive approach represents a very dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and stability, a blatant challenge to international legitimacy, and undermines efforts to reduce escalation and reach peaceful solutions.”
Earlier on Friday, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity announced in a statement that one of its power and water desalination plants was attacked as a result of Iranian aggression, causing damage to the plant's facilities and a fire, without specifying its location.
She added that she activated emergency plans and dealt immediately with the incident to minimize its effects and maintain the stability of the electrical system.
She explained that they were able to control and extinguish the fire, while the technical and emergency teams, in coordination with the concerned authorities, began implementing the necessary technical and precautionary measures to assess the damage, secure the station, and work to return the damaged units to service as quickly as possible.
She called on citizens and residents to cooperate with her during this exceptional period by rationalizing electricity consumption, “because this has a direct impact on supporting the stability of the national electricity system.”
She stressed that “every contribution to rationalizing consumption enhances the ability of the electrical system to overcome this stage, and contributes to supporting the work of repairing and rehabilitating the damaged facilities as quickly as possible.”
The Kuwaiti army also announced this morning that its air defenses had intercepted Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting the country.
The Kuwaiti army said in a post on its “X” platform account that “Kuwaiti air defenses are responding to missile attacks and hostile drones, following the heinous Iranian aggression.”
He added that “the sounds of explosions, if heard, are the result of air defense systems intercepting hostile attacks.”
The army called on everyone to “abide by the security and safety instructions issued by the competent authorities.”
In a related context, the Bahraini Ministry of Interior reported that sirens were sounding in the country without specifying particular locations, and called on citizens and residents to remain calm, head to the nearest safe place, and follow the news through official channels.
For its part, the Iranian army announced early Friday that it had targeted the Sakhir airbase in Bahrain, which houses reconnaissance aircraft and helicopters belonging to the US military, with suicide drones.
