South Korea coach Hong Myung-bo was forced to return quickly to the United States after receiving death threats following his country's elimination from the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Hong-myung was met with boos upon his return to the airport in South Korea, and his pictures were displayed in some facilities under the slogan "No Entry," while security authorities took seriously the death threats he received.

The Korean public held the coach responsible for the failure after exiting the group stage with only one win against the Czech Republic, and two losses against Mexico and South Africa.

Hong-myung was spotted at Incheon Airport in disguise on Thursday, wearing a hat and mask, preparing to travel to Los Angeles, just two days after returning to the Asian country with his team.

The South Korean president has called for an investigation into the humiliating exit, amid reports of a poor relationship between the coach and the players, which the coach has denied.
