The acting governor of Belgorod region, Alexander Shuvayev, announced that Ukrainian forces had launched an intensive attack on the city of Belgorod, resulting in damage to infrastructure and the outbreak of some fires.
Shuvayev said in a post on the Max platform that "the city and region of Belgorod were once again subjected to intense attacks by the Ukrainian armed forces," adding that, according to preliminary information, no casualties were recorded.
The acting governor noted that the attack caused damage to "the facade and glass of a commercial building, as well as six cars," while fire crews worked to extinguish fires that broke out in a number of damaged buildings.
He confirmed that all operational and emergency services are working at the affected sites to assess the damage and begin repair operations.
In the same context, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on Friday that the security buffer zone that Russia is working to create in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions will expand if Kyiv forces continue to target Russian infrastructure.
This comes at a time when Ukrainian drone and missile attacks deep inside Russia are escalating, with the Russian Defense Ministry having previously announced the downing of 121 Ukrainian drones in 14 hours, an indication of intensified strikes on Russian territory.
Western officials have also acknowledged lifting restrictions on the range of weapons supplied to Ukraine, allowing them to target locations deep inside Russia, including military bases and industrial sites, a move that increases geopolitical risks and prompts Moscow to take countermeasures.
