AI infrastructure needs to be strengthened to increase competitiveness

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital  Nezar Patria said Indonesia needs to strengthen the foundation of supporting infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) so that it is not only a user of technology but is able to play a role in the global AI supply chain.

He believes that global AI competition has shifted from application development to mastery of supporting infrastructure such as energy, data centers, chips , computing, and talent.

"We've been busy playing downstream, but we've forgotten the upstream. Downstream is just the final product, perhaps more suitable for countries that are establishing themselves as markets. Upstream, AI infrastructure is crucial," Nezar said in a statement confirmed.

According to him, Indonesia has significant potential to enter the global supply chain. One way is through capitalizing on its wealth of available natural resources, such as silica sand.

"Indonesia's potential to enter the global supply chain is quite significant. If we look at the infrastructure for semiconductor manufacturing, silica sand is needed. Indonesia has approximately 340 million tons of silica sand reserves," said Nezar.
