Catherine Hayhoe, a climate scientist and professor at Texas Tech University, warns that the heat wave in the United States reflects a shift towards more dangerous heat waves.

According to her, the current heat wave sweeping the United States is not just an unusually hot summer, but reflects a long-term shift towards more frequent, longer, and more dangerous heat waves.

She says: "Summers in the United States, throughout North America, and around the world are getting hotter, the heat wave season is longer, and the heat waves themselves are more intense and dangerous than before."

The climate scientist emphasizes that the heat wave cannot be considered a normal summer phenomenon, because climatic conditions have changed significantly compared to the past.

She says: "This is not the summer we are used to. We cannot underestimate the heat waves and consider them just a normal summer."

According to her, these risks must be taken seriously to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities.

It should be noted that in recent weeks, a severe heat wave and storms have strained American infrastructure. In New York City, temperatures reached 38 degrees Celsius last Thursday, causing asphalt to melt. Several cities on the East Coast canceled or postponed Independence Day celebrations due to the heat, and at least 840,000 homes lost power on Saturday amid extreme temperatures and storms.
