Collina said the referee's decision in the Argentina vs Egypt match was correct

FIFA's refereeing chief Pierluigi Collina believes referee Francois Letexier's decision in the 2026 World Cup round of 16 match between Argentina and Egypt was correct.

Quoted from the official FIFA website, Thursday, Collina assessed that Letexier had made the right decisions in several incidents that occurred during the match.

Collina emphasized that every decision made by the referee in a match, especially a goal, has been subject to extensive review and he cited the example of when Egyptian striker Mostafa Zico's goal was disallowed.

The Italian explained that there is no set limit on the distance from the goal or the duration between the incident and the goal.

"An example of this occurred in the Argentina vs. Egypt match where Egypt's number 19, Marwan Attia, clearly stepped on Argentina's number 6, Lisandro Martínez," Collina explained.

"We believe a foul is a foul. Regardless of whether it appears 'obvious' or not, if the referee doesn't see it on the pitch, VAR can intervene," he continued.
