Zinedine Zidane is close to returning to the world of coaching through the French national team, to succeed Didier Deschamps after the end of a 14-year era with "Les Bleus".
The return of Zidane's name to the forefront has reopened the file on his previous refusal to coach the Algerian national team after the departure of Djamel Belmadi.
French reports have revealed details of the expected contract for "Zizou," where he is expected to receive a basic salary of about 300,000 euros per month, with the possibility of it rising to about 450,000 euros per month with bonuses and incentives related to results.
This shows a significant difference compared to the contract of the Algerian national team coach, Vladimir Petkovic, whose salary is around 165,000 euros per month.
However, the financial aspect was not the reason behind Zidane’s previous refusal to coach the “Desert Warriors” after the departure of Djamel Belmadi, as reports indicate that the Algerian Federation tried to entice the French star through a meeting with his long-time agent Alain Migliaccio in Paris.
Although the idea was welcomed by some members of his family, Zidane chose to decline the offer, a decision that is more understandable today, as he had been waiting for the opportunity to lead the French national team, a position he had dreamed of since retiring from coaching.
After years of waiting, it seems that Zidane's dream of leading the national team with whom he won the 1998 World Cup as a player is close to becoming a reality.
According to the French newspaper L'Equipe, Zinedine Zidane will be announced as the new coach of the French national team this week.
Zidane's first match with the French national team is scheduled to take place during the next international break in September.
