Egypt expects to receive $1.72 billion from the European Union within days

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty announced on Saturday that Egypt expects to receive the first tranche of $1.72 billion in the coming days.

This is from the two remaining installments within the European financial aid package allocated to support the macroeconomy.

Abdel-Aati said during a press conference held in the new administrative capital alongside the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Schweica, that the remaining amount of the package is about $3.44 billion, which will be disbursed in two equal tranches, worth $1.72 billion each.

He added that Cairo hopes to receive the final tranche with the start of autumn.

The European Union has so far disbursed about $2.29 billion of the total package, with the first tranche, worth $1.15 billion, transferred in January 2025, while the second tranche, also worth $1.15 billion, was disbursed earlier this year.

The financial assistance to support the macroeconomy is part of a broader funding package announced by the European Union in 2024 with a total value of approximately $8.48 billion, which includes, in addition to this assistance, soft loans worth $5.73 billion.
