The US military announced early Friday that it had completed the latest round of strikes against Iran, on the thirteenth consecutive night of attacks, while Iranian media reported hearing explosions in several cities in the south and west of the country, and the activation of air defenses in the capital, Tehran.
The US Central Command said that US forces “began another night of strikes against Iranian military targets” at 6:45 PM explaining that the attacks were aimed at “holding Iran accountable and reducing the threats posed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to commercial shipping.”
The command added that the wave of strikes lasted for more than two hours, before announcing its completion, without providing further details about the nature of the targets that were struck or the extent of the resulting damage.
Iranian media reported explosions in several areas, with the deputy governor of Khuzestan confirming that areas around the city of Ahvaz in southwestern Iran were subjected to American missile attacks. Iranian television announced hearing explosions in seven areas of the city, including Omidiyeh and Andimeshk, in addition to an explosion on the southern coast of Qeshm Island in Hormozgan province.
The Fars News Agency also reported hearing explosions in the city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province and the city of Jask, while it spoke of an explosion in the south of the city of Khorramabad in Lorestan province, in addition to an explosion in the city of Konarak in Sistan and Baluchestan province in the southeast of the country.
The Mehr news agency reported that air defenses were activated in the capital, Tehran, to counter hostile targets, while the Tasnim news agency reported hearing explosions on the southern coast of Qeshm Island and fighter jets flying in its airspace.
An official in Hormozgan province said authorities are working to restore electricity to some areas in Bandar Abbas after damage caused by the US attacks.
