Men's doubles badminton players Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri secured the 2026 Japan Open title.
In the final round which took place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Tokyo, Sunday, Fajar/Fikri overcame the resistance of the South Korean doubles pair Kim Won-ho/Seo Seung-jae in two straight games 21-19 and 21-17.
Starting the first game, Fajar/Fikri tried to take the tempo of the game but Kim/Seo played quite openly until the points were chased.
Kim/Seo were able to capitalize on a number of moments well, thus gaining a two-point lead midway through the first game, 10-8.
After the interval, Fajar/Fikri played more patiently against Kim/Seo's aggressive style. Slowly but surely, Fajar/Fikri, scoring three consecutive points, turned the score around to 19-16.
In a superior position, Fajar/Fikri finally played very calmly to close the victory to 21-19.
