Gauff bounces back from a set down to beat Pegula to reach her first Wimbledon semi-final

Coco Gauff rallied from a set down to defeat Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the Wimbledon quarter-finals  securing her place in the semifinals of the grasscourt Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career.

The two-time Grand Slam champion needed 1 hour and 48 minutes to defeat Pegula after trailing in the first set.

"Considering I hadn't won a match on grass for two years before this tournament, I was really happy with the way I played today," Gauff was quoted as saying by the WTA on Wednesday.

The American also praised her compatriot Pegula as a tough opponent.

"Jess is an incredible opponent and a great person. Playing against her is never easy. I'm just happy I got through this match," Gauff said.

The win made Gauff the seventh active player to reach at least the semifinals of all four Grand Slam tournaments in her career.

In the semifinals, the second seed will face Czech 10th seed Karolina Muchova. Gauff holds a 6-1 head-to-head record against Muchova, although this will be their first meeting on grass.
