The German Football Association has refused to join the collective support for the re-election of Gianni Infantino as president of FIFA, a move that reflects growing criticism of the current administration.

According to Eurosport, German Football Association president Bernd Neuendorf has made it clear that he will not support Infantino, following the controversy surrounding the decision to lift the ban on US striker Folarin Balogun during the 2026 World Cup.

The decision to lift the suspension on Balogun, after he received a red card, allowed him to participate in the round of 16 match against Belgium, which sparked a wide wave of criticism and objections regarding the decision-making mechanism.

The situation is not limited to Germany, as several national federations are considering reconsidering their support for Infantino, amid growing controversy surrounding the issue.

The Netherlands, Belgium, Norway and Switzerland have also publicly criticized the FIFA president, while Egypt and Senegal are also considering withdrawing their support for him.

Despite these pressures, predictions indicate that Infantino will retain his position during the FIFA presidential elections scheduled for 2027, given the absence of any declared competitor so far. However, these developments may affect the extent of his influence within the international federation in the coming period.
