India lifts gas supply restrictions after supplies from the Middle East resume

India has announced the lifting of emergency restrictions it had imposed on gas suppliers, following the resumption of liquefied natural gas flows from the Middle East.

The Indian government, in an official notification issued on Saturday, said it had withdrawn a previous decision to restrict supply operations and redirect supplies towards priority sectors, in light of the crisis the country has witnessed in recent months.

Last March, India resorted to emergency measures to manage gas demand, including diverting supplies from less critical sectors to key users, following disruptions to liquefied natural gas shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most vital corridors for global energy trade.

According to previous data, geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region have directly affected energy flows to Asian markets, prompting India to strengthen government intervention mechanisms to ensure the stability of supplies, especially for the industrial, electricity and transportation sectors.

With supplies from the Middle East resuming and shipping activity returning to relative normalcy, market indicators began to improve, allowing the Indian government to reconsider the restrictions that had been temporarily imposed on supply operations.
