Indonesian women's tennis player Janice Tjen had to end her singles career in the second round of the 2026 Wimbledon after losing to Daria Kasatkina in a three-set match in London, England, on Wednesday.
Janice had opened up a chance by winning the first set through a tie-break before finally being forced to surrender by the Australian tennis player 7-6(5), 1-6, 4-6 in a match that lasted two hours and 37 minutes.
Janice put in a solid performance in the opening set. After both players held serve until the score was tied at 6-6, the Jakarta-born player displayed a more composed performance, rallying from a 1-5 deficit in the tie-break to secure the first set 7-5.
However, the momentum turned in the second set as Kasatkina increased the pressure from the start of the match.
The world No. 65 broke Janice's serve twice to take a commanding lead and close out the second set with a 6-1 victory, forcing the match into a decider.
In the third set, both players traded breaks early in the match. Kasatkina then capitalized on a break opportunity in the eighth game to regain the lead before securing a 6-4 victory after converting a match point in the final game.
