Indonesian men's doubles badminton players Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri secured the 2026 Japan Open title.
Fajar/Fikri appeared so dominant by silencing the world number one doubles pair from South Korea Kim Won-ho/Seo Seung-jae in two straight games 21-19 and 21-17 in the final round which took place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Tokyo, Sunday.
Fajar/Fikri's victory in this BWF Super 750 tournament was crucial, considering the Indonesian badminton team had no finalists in any other event. This title ensured the Indonesian team would return home with the championship.
Meanwhile, in the men's singles sector, French badminton player Christo Popov made a surprising appearance by silencing Japanese singles player Koki Watanabe in two straight games, 21-11 and 21-19.
This title was a balm for the world's fifth-ranked badminton player after his first-round exit at the 2026 Indonesia Open.
