Rudi Völler, the sporting director of the German Football Association, confirmed that Joshua Kimmich will continue to wear the captain's armband for the German national team under the leadership of new coach Jürgen Klopp.
Fuller's comments came during the International Coaches Conference in Mainz, where he was asked about the future of the captain's armband after Klopp's appointment as national team coach, to which he replied: "I assume Kimmich will remain captain. He has proven in many international matches that he is a true leader and a symbol of the team, and I do not expect a major change in this matter."
Fuller also spoke about the challenge awaiting Klopp in his first experience as head coach of the national team, stressing that coaching Germany is completely different from leading clubs, no matter how big they are.
He said: "Jurgen has exceptional coaching experience, but he is beginning to realize the magnitude of the responsibility placed upon him. Coaching the national team in a country the size of Germany is very different from coaching any club, even the biggest clubs in the world."
He added: "I always told Julian Nagelsmann that any decision made by the national team coach, whether in choosing the squad, the formation, or the tactical approach, would be subject to discussion by millions of Germans, and it is impossible to please everyone."
In the same context, Fuller defended former coach Julian Nagelsmann, considering that the criticism he faced after the failure in the World Cup was harsh and unfair.
He explained: "Nagelsmann did not deserve those criticisms. He is a talented coach with a distinctive personality, and he is still at the beginning of his coaching career. I am confident that he will soon return to coach one of the biggest clubs in Europe, and I have no doubt about his ability to achieve great successes in the future."
