Dr. Alexey Yegorov, an ophthalmologist, points out that people over 50 years of age should have a regular eye exam by an ophthalmologist every six months, especially if there is a genetic predisposition.

He said: "Following up on eye diseases is extremely important and necessary, so everyone over the age of fifty should visit an ophthalmologist at least once every six months, especially if there is a family history of the disease."

According to him, cataracts have become more common among middle-aged patients, with cases being recorded in people aged 42 or 43, and in some cases, surgical intervention may be required.

The specialist also warned that glaucoma can develop silently for long periods without clear symptoms appearing in its early stages, making early detection essential.

He added: "Glaucoma in its early stages steals sight silently, as the patient is unaware of any problem in his eyes, but by the time it is discovered, it may be too late."

The doctor pointed out that eye diseases usually associated with the elderly are increasingly being diagnosed in younger age groups, including cataracts and glaucoma, noting that early diagnosis thanks to modern technologies allows for more effective treatment of these conditions and reduces complications.
