OpenAI announced that its new artificial intelligence model, GPT-5.6, will be available in a limited capacity for now, after the US administration imposed restrictions on its release.

According to the company, the limited release came at the request of President Donald Trump's administration. The company emphasized that it does not consider this a "long-term standard," but agreed to this measure to ensure broader access to the model in the future as soon as possible. The new model will initially be rolled out to 20 of the company's partners through the Amazon Bedrock platform.

The launch of the new model comes at a time of increasing pressure from the White House on artificial intelligence developers, as Bloomberg points out. Anthropic, a competitor of OpenAI, had previously restricted access to its most powerful models at the request of the US government, citing national security considerations.

At the beginning of June, President Trump signed an executive order giving a 60-day deadline to develop a voluntary framework that allows the government to review advanced artificial intelligence models 30 days before they are released to the public. OpenAI hopes this will help regulate the process of future releases.

Available information indicates that the new artificial intelligence model GPT-5.6 is aimed at complex programming tasks, advanced research, and multi-step task execution, and will be useful for ordinary users and businesses to perform various tasks.
