Paraguayan football club Olimpia has announced plans to build a new 46,000-seat stadium that is expected to host one of the opening matches of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The stadium, located in Asuncion, is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2029 at a construction cost of US$80 million (US$1 = Rp18,090), the club said in a statement posted on its official website.
The stadium will be named Osvaldo Dominguez Dibb Stadium in honor of the club's former president and the father of Alejandro Dominguez, president of the South American Football Confederation.
Work on the structure's foundations is scheduled to begin later this month.
Olimpia said the project will involve engineers who previously participated in the renovation of Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium for the 2014 World Cup.
Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina are each expected to host one World Cup match to commemorate the tournament's 100th anniversary.
