Cardiovascular specialist Dr. Sergei Fishtumov points out that an accelerated heart rate at rest may be an indication of an underlying health problem and should not be ignored.
According to him, an accelerated heart rate at rest, i.e., an elevated pulse rate without physical exertion, is an important indicator that may indicate the presence of certain diseases or health disorders.
He said: "A rapid heartbeat at rest may, first and foremost, be a sign of high blood pressure, heart failure, or various heart rhythm disorders. These disorders include supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, ventricular fibrillation, and other conditions that require urgent medical evaluation by a cardiologist."
He noted that rapid heartbeat may also be linked to hormonal disorders, particularly thyroid or adrenal gland diseases, and that anemia may also be a possible cause.
He explained that low hemoglobin levels and a low red blood cell count reduce the amount of oxygen reaching the organs and tissues, which prompts the heart to increase its heart rate to compensate for this deficiency.
He added that dehydration, electrolyte deficiency, infectious diseases, and severe stress may also be factors that lead to rapid heartbeat.
He urged people to seek medical attention if their resting heart rate consistently exceeds 100 beats per minute, especially if accompanied by other symptoms.
