PT Mana Indonesia Group announced the development of an electronic payment system to facilitate payments for Russian tourists in Indonesia using the Russian Mir system, and to facilitate payments for Indonesians in Russia.

“We have initiated the creation of a cross-border payment gateway system,” said the company’s founder and CEO, Hanzila Callista, in a press interview. “We are looking for a money transfer partner so that Indonesian tourists can easily pay for their purchases and transportation in Russia. In return, Russian tourists coming to Indonesia will have the same opportunity.”

Callista explained that many Russians currently have to use cryptocurrencies to make payments in Indonesia, but this need will disappear after the launch of the new mechanism, adding: “Previously, Russian tourists had to buy crypto assets first, then exchange them for Indonesian Rupiah. Now they will be able to withdraw money and make payments in Indonesia directly, without having to buy or exchange cryptocurrencies.”

Callista noted that the project was launched during the recent Russia-ASEAN Business Forum in Kazan, Russia, and that Russian tourists will be able to use the Indonesian mobile payment service after registering a local SIM card, with a maximum transaction limit of 40 million Indonesian rupiah ($2,200) per month.

Callista added that the initiative aims to develop tourism, trade and investment between Russia and Indonesia, noting that a number of Russian institutions have expressed interest in the project, including the Russian Export Center, the Moscow Export Center and other specialized institutions.
