Senegal national team parts ways with head coach Pape Thiaw

The Senegalese national team has officially parted ways with Pape Thiaw after the Senegalese Football Federation  officially dismissed him as head coach of the team nicknamed the Lions of Teranga.

"The decision has been taken to terminate the professional relationship with the national team coach, Pape Thiaw, and his coaching staff. After a thorough evaluation of the national team's sporting results and prospects, the FSF Executive Committee deemed this step necessary in the best interests of Senegalese football," the FSF.

This moment occurred after Thiaw failed to bring Senegal to the 2026 World Cup, after being eliminated by Belgium in the round of 32 with a score of 2-3.

At the 2026 World Cup, the Teranga Lions qualified from a highly competitive Group I despite losing 1-3 to France and 2-3 to Norway in their first two matches, but a convincing 5-0 victory over Iraq saw them advance to the knockout stages as one of the best third-placed teams.

Senegal's progress was then halted in the round of 32 after a dramatic 2-3 extra-time defeat to Belgium. In that match, Senegal squandered a two-goal lead in the final five minutes of normal time.
