Cardiologist Dr. Andrei Kondrakhin stated that low blood pressure, also known as hypotension, can be treated by following simple, non-drug methods.
According to him, the main goal in this case is to increase the volume of fluid in the blood vessels, which generates pressure on their walls, thus increasing blood flow. This can be achieved by using salt, which retains water and therefore helps in this process.
He says: "Pickles, herring, potato chips - anything containing salt - are beneficial. Salted brown bread also has a beneficial effect. Or mineral water rich in salts."
Products containing caffeine, such as cocoa, coffee, and tea, can also provide temporary relief.
He says: "Tea contains tannins, which block blood vessels, causing them to spasm. The effect of tannins on blood vessels leads to high blood pressure."
He adds: "The next method is sugar. If a person does not have high blood pressure, he should remember that sugar, when it enters the bloodstream, also draws water into the bloodstream, which leads to high blood pressure."
He points out that another simple method is to change body position, such as lying down and raising the legs.
It should be noted that Academician Leo Bokeria, Chief Specialist of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Russian Ministry of Health, has defined the appropriate limits for blood pressure fluctuations.
According to him, the systolic pressure (upper pressure) should not exceed 140, and the diastolic pressure (lower pressure) should not exceed 80 mmHg.
