Swiss effectiveness is key to eliminating Algeria

Swiss striker Breel Embolo said that effectively capitalizing on opportunities was key to his team's success in eliminating Algeria 2-0 in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup at BC Place, Vancouver, Friday WIB.

Embolo opened the scoring for Switzerland in the 10th minute, before Dan Ndoye doubled the lead in the 46th minute to secure Murat Yakin's side's place in the last 16.

Switzerland came under pressure from Algeria early in the match, but responded with a quick goal built through teamwork before Embolo finished from close range.

"We suffered at the start of the match, but managed to score a great team goal," Embolo told FIFA's website.

Embolo said Switzerland's opening goal was not just about finishing, but also the result of a collective effort that saw his team overcome Algerian pressure.
