The Dallas Mavericks have decided to retain center Moussa Cisse by matching the two-year, $4.7 million offer sheet offered by the New York Knicks to the restricted free agent.
The NBA website stated on Sunday that the decision means the 2.11-meter-tall basketball player will remain with the Mavericks for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 seasons.
Under NBA rules, the Mavericks had 48 hours to make a decision after Cisse signed an offer sheet with the Knicks. However, the Texas team decided to match the offer before the deadline.
Cisse joined the Mavericks on a two-way contract last season after going undrafted in the NBA Draft. His performance with the team was deemed promising enough that the club opted to retain the 22-year-old.
Throughout the 2025-2026 season, Cisse appeared in several NBA games while also earning playing time in the NBA G League, as part of the development process.
His ability to defend, protect the rim, and grab rebounds is an added value for the Dallas Mavericks' front line.
With the status of a restricted free agent , the team has the right to match any contract offer from other clubs.
The decision ensures Moussa Cisse remains part of the Mavericks' long-term plans to strengthen the squad's depth at the center position , for at least the next two seasons.
