Minister of Communication and Digital  Meutya Hafid hopes the 2026 World Cup will provide momentum to strengthen national unity.

As quoted in a ministry press statement in Jakarta on Monday, he said that broadcasting sports matches not only provides entertainment, but also creates a space for community togetherness.

"We are very proud that after 24 years, in 2026, TVRI will once again be the official broadcaster of the World Cup," he said while attending a group viewing of the 2025 World Cup final in Martubung, Medan.

"This is all thanks to the President and his intention to provide entertainment for people everywhere in Indonesia, including in Martubung," said Meutya.

He also said that football matches in the World Cup provide lessons about struggle, sportsmanship, unity, and togetherness.

"Let us learn from this world football event. Let us learn sportsmanship, the meaning of struggle, and that the most important thing in all competitions is joy, cheerfulness, and a sense of unity," he said.

He hopes that this enthusiasm will be reflected in the way people enjoy football matches.

"Hopefully, the match will go smoothly. No cheating, no violence. Peaceful for all, including those watching here," he said.

Meutya said that sports have the power to unite people from different backgrounds.

"The World Cup belongs to everyone. Let's celebrate it with sportsmanship, mutual respect, and unity. That's the spirit we want to build together," he said.
