The Ministry of Communication and Digital believes additional frequencies are needed to support 6G development

The Ministry of Communication and Digital  assesses the need to add new frequency spectrum to support the development of 6G cellular network technology.

Director of Radio Frequency Spectrum Arrangement, Satellite Orbits, and Digital Infrastructure Standardization at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology, Adis Alifiawan, in a discussion with the Indonesian Telematics Society , said the national cellular spectrum capacity after the auction process for the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz frequency bands is estimated to reach around 712 MHz.

The spectrum requirements for future 6G network implementation are expected to be significantly greater, necessitating efforts to develop additional frequency bands. The currently available frequency spectrum is considered insufficient for 6G network development.

"This means we have to create new frequencies. Using existing frequencies is insufficient and not adequate ," Adis said.
