The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs emphasized that SIM card registration cannot use other people's data

The Ministry of Communication and Digital  has emphasized that SIM card registration using the biometric verification method must not use another person's identity data.

This was conveyed by Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, Director General of Digital Ecosystems at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, after discovering the misuse of biometric-based SIM card registration by sellers. Although all operators have implemented facial recognition registration, some individuals still activate SIM cards using their biometrics before selling them to customers.

"There are still those who want to try something like that. The card is activated with their face, brought by the customer , and then after the customer uses it, it's unregistered , so the customer loses out," Edwin said in a statement confirmed.
