The pace of hiring in the United States slowed in June, with only 57,000 jobs added, as companies remained cautious about the economic outlook.
The Labor Department reported on Thursday that the unemployment rate fell to 4.2%, compared to 4.3% in May. However, this decrease is largely due to a large number of unemployed individuals leaving the labor force after ceasing their job search, thus preventing them from being counted in the overall unemployment figures.
The data reflects the continued concern among companies about the economic situation, with inflation rates rising to their highest levels in three years, along with a decline in consumer confidence to levels close to those recorded after the Corona pandemic.
The number of unemployment benefit claims in the United States fell to 215,000 last week, while layoff rates remained stable at historically low levels, indicating continued strength in the labor market despite the slowdown in hiring.
