The Sorong Regency Government, Southwest Papua, has proposed the construction of a Fish Landing Site to the central government to support the development of the capture fisheries sector, improve the management of fishermen's catches, and increase regional revenue.
Marthen Kaiway, Head of the Sorong Regency Fisheries Service, stated in Aimas District, Sorong Regency, on Saturday that the TPI is an urgent need because Sorong Regency does not yet have such a facility.
"We don't have a fisheries terminal yet. Fishermen bring their catch directly to Sorong City after fishing, so much of the production data is not recorded in Sorong Regency. This, in fact, has the potential to be a source of local revenue," said Marthen.
Because there is no TPI facility, most of the fishermen's catch is taken directly to the Sorong City Fishing Port to be marketed, so that capture fisheries production data in Sorong Regency has not been optimally recorded.
According to him, the TPI not only functions as a landing and marketing center for catches, but also facilitates production recording, fish distribution monitoring, and supports the optimization of regional revenue from the fisheries sector.
Marthen explained that the Sorong Regency Fisheries Office targets capture fisheries production to reach 10,638 tons per year, which includes various superior commodities, such as anchovies, scads, tuna, mackerel, Spanish mackerel, skipjack tuna, and grouper.
