The Turkish ambassador in Cairo: We are coordinating with Egypt and Qatar to move to the second phase of the Gaza agreement

This came during a speech he delivered at a solidarity event entitled "The Palestinian and Egyptian Families Forum," organized by the Turkish and Palestinian embassies in Cairo, according to a statement issued by the Turkish embassy.

Mutlu Şen pointed out that Türkiye has harnessed its capabilities since day one to stop the Israeli war of extermination on the Gaza Strip, and continues to defend Palestinian rights and convey the voice of the Palestinians to various international forums.

He explained that his country played a pivotal role in reaching the peace plan that was signed in Sharm El-Sheikh on October 13, 2025, with the participation of Egypt, the United States and Qatar, stressing the continuation of Turkish efforts to ensure the implementation of its provisions.

He added that Türkiye, based on the directives of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which are based on supporting the oppressed, foremost among them the Palestinian people, will not allow the Palestinian cause to be removed from the agenda of the international community.

The Turkish ambassador affirmed that "coordination between Turkey, Egypt and Qatar as mediating countries is ongoing with the aim of moving to the second phase of the peace process in Gaza, and obligating Israel to implement its commitments related to the first phase."

He stressed that the Palestinian people, like all peoples of the world, have the right to live on their land in freedom, security and dignity under their state, stressing that the Palestinian cause cannot be separated from its people.

The first phase of the peace plan came into effect on October 10, 2025. While Hamas complied with the requirements of the first phase, Israel reneged on its commitments and continued its attacks.

Despite Tel Aviv's disavowal, US President Donald Trump announced in mid-January the start of the second phase, which includes a broader withdrawal of the Israeli army and reconstruction, in exchange for the disarmament of the factions. Israel did not implement this either, but rather went beyond it by insisting on disarmament first.

A ceasefire agreement was reached in the Gaza Strip after two years of genocide that began with Israel on October 8, 2023, with American support, leaving about 73,000 martyrs and more than 173,000 wounded Palestinians, most of them children and women, as well as the destruction of 90% of the civilian infrastructure.
