US President Donald Trump confirmed that the military operations against Iran were aimed at preventing it from possessing a nuclear weapon, describing what happened as “an operation to dismantle the Iranian nuclear program” and not a war in the traditional sense, stressing that the United States “cannot allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon.”
Trump's remarks came during an interview with CNBC from the Oval Office at the White House, in which he defended his decision to launch military operations against Iran, arguing that the campaign had achieved its goals in a relatively short period of about four months.
Trump said, "This is not a war in the traditional sense; it is an operation to dismantle Iran's nuclear program," adding that preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons is a priority for U.S. national security.
He also asserted that the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz was tight, claiming that “no ship was able to reach Iran,” and describing it as a “wall of steel,” despite maritime reports indicating breaches of the blockade during the conflict.
The interview also touched on a number of domestic and foreign issues, including the US economy, financial markets, the Supreme Court, the Federal Reserve, and the midterm elections scheduled for 2026.
In another context, Trump defended his family's business activities after the release of the 2025 financial disclosure report, which showed he had made more than $580 million in cryptocurrency-related investments, asserting that those activities were "perfectly legal" and did not represent a conflict of interest.
He said his sons are under unprecedented scrutiny because of his presidential position, explaining that the president's policies have an impact on various sectors of the economy, making any economic activity undertaken by his family subject to criticism.
