Prince Khalid bin Alwaleed bin Talal, the former advisor to the Saudi Ministry of Sports, commented on the widespread reaction and controversy sparked by his tweet regarding the financial crisis facing the Saudi Al-Nassr club.
Press reports indicate that Al-Nassr club management will not be able to make new signings during the summer transfer window due to the financial crises it is currently experiencing.
The newspaper “Al-Riyadh” said in its latest report that the Saudi Public Investment Fund has begun taking urgent measures to contain the financial crisis suffered by the Saudi “Roshan” League title holder.
Al-Nasr club’s debts amount to 800 million riyals, all of which, according to Al-Riyadh newspaper, came as a result of financial decisions taken during the last season (2025-2026).
Khaled bin Al-Waleed, the son of Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, sparked widespread controversy with laughing emojis in response to a report published on the "X" platform stating that Al-Nasr club's debts have reached one billion dollars, which prevents it from making new contracts.
Khaled bin Al-Waleed said in his tweet: “What’s even funnier than the original tweet is that I know many Al-Nasr fans, and not one of them is a child like the ones on X here specifically.”
He added: "You won the biggest league in the Middle East, if not in Asia, and congratulations on this great achievement. No one complained for a moment, but you get angry over a laugh on an external account from my personal account? That's football, we'll all laugh at each other."
He continued: "Two and a half million views of laughter, thanks be to God and then to you."
It is worth noting that Al-Nassr, led by Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, won the Saudi Football League title last season, for the first time since the 2018-2019 season.
