Former world number one Venus Williams will once again partner with young Filipina Alexandra Eala in the doubles event at the Mubadala DC Open tournament taking place in Washington, United States.
Williams and Eala previously played together for the first time at the Bad Homburg Open last month. In that grass-court event, they both advanced to the quarterfinals.
Quoted from WTA, Sunday, In addition to appearing in the doubles event, Williams and Eala are also registered as singles participants in the WTA 500 tournament.
Last year, Williams reached the quarterfinals of the Mubadala DC Open doubles with compatriot Hailey Baptiste.
Throughout a professional career spanning more than three decades, Williams has collected 22 doubles titles on the WTA Tour, including 14 Grand Slam titles won with her sister, Serena Williams.
The pair have won each of the four Grand Slam tournaments at least twice, and have also won three Olympic gold medals in doubles for the United States.
Meanwhile, the top seeds in the doubles this year will be Sara Errani and Nicole Melichar-Martinez. Errani is a 10-time Grand Slam champion in doubles and mixed doubles, while Melichar-Martinez is a former mixed doubles champion at Wimbledon.
Defending champion Zhang Shuai is also back in action and will be partnered with Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen.
The singles competition will be enlivened by a number of top world tennis players, including world number three Jessica Pegula, number 10 Elina Svitolina, number 11 Marta Kostyuk, number 13 Naomi Osaka, number 15 Jasmine Paolini, and number 18 Diana Shnaider.
