Swiss national team coach Murat Yakin said his plans were running smoothly after his team eliminated Colombia in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
Quoted from the official FIFA website, Wednesday, Yakin said the most important thing was that Switzerland could advance to the quarter-finals after waiting 72 years.
"At the start of the match, we needed experience. We needed the right mentality. Then, in the second half, we made substitutions that gave us more control, especially in possession," Yakin explained.
Switzerland secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup after defeating Colombia in a penalty shootout at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver.
In this match, both teams played a goalless draw for 120 minutes before Switzerland was able to become the winner after winning 4-3 in the penalty shootout.
