A diplomatic scandal rocks France: an ambassador is implicated in suspicious relationships with 30 girls in an African country

Diplomatic sources revealed that Bruno Foucher, the French ambassador to Bangui, is facing a disciplinary investigation at the French Foreign Ministry following accusations that he brought around 30 young women to his official residence.

The diplomat admitted to having sexual relations with two of them, in an incident described as a "major diplomatic incident" given the security and political fragility of the Central African Republic.

Informed sources reported that the case opened a wider file on the behavior of some French representatives on the continent, particularly in the Sahel and West African countries, where French officials demanded that diplomatic missions be purged of practices that "fall behind the spirit of the times" and perpetuate a paternalistic view towards African partners.

In the same context, observers believe that many African governments bear some responsibility for failing to provide sufficient opportunities for young people, creating an environment of fragility that is exploited by donors, whether French, Russian, or Chinese, in their funded programs.

Unofficial reports have called for the formation of an international commission of inquiry to dismantle potential networks that exploit grants allocated to young people on the continent, noting that current models of cultural cooperation, represented by the French Institute, may need a radical review, so that they include partnerships with independent cultural spaces that have emerged in working-class neighborhoods over the past decades.
