The Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation recorded a medical achievement within one week by coordinating 4 organ removal operations from brain-dead donors and transplanting them to 14 patients, including 4 children who suffered from organ failure.
The operations were carried out in cooperation with Johns Hopkins Aramco Dhahran Hospital, Imam Abdulrahman Al Faisal Hospital, Rafha Central Hospital, and King Abdulaziz Hospital in Jeddah, in addition to medical entities outside the Kingdom, in a model that reflects advanced coordination between health institutions.
The operations included: 3 heart transplants (one for a child), 3 liver transplants (including one for a child), 2 lung transplants, 5 kidney transplants, in addition to a kidney and pancreas transplant for a patient with double failure.
For his part, the Director General of the Center, Dr. Talal Al-Qoufi, confirmed that the distribution of organs was carried out with the highest ethical and medical standards to ensure fairness, praising the great cooperation between the parties and the pivotal role of air medical evacuation in transporting organs and teams quickly and efficiently.
Al-Qawfi expressed his deep appreciation to the families of the donors, stressing that their humanitarian decision contributed to saving multiple lives and deserves praise.
