A new discovery solves the mystery of the lost Egyptian city of "Massoun"

The Egyptian archaeological mission working at the "Tell Abu Seifi" site in Ismailia Governorate has succeeded in uncovering evidence of this site's connection to the ancient Egyptian city of "Messen".

Messen is one of the famous cities mentioned in historical texts and sources during the New Kingdom period.

Among the most notable findings of the excavation work was the discovery of a huge lintel made of sandstone dating back to the reign of King Ramses II; the titles of the pharaoh king were engraved on it, along with a recording text documenting the restoration work of the statue of the god "Horus, Lord of the City of Mesen".

The discoveries also included the uncovering of the remains of the main temple, including a number of interior rooms and the Holy of Holies area, as well as two stone roads and a huge wall surrounding the archaeological sanctuary, reinforced with gates, interior rooms and successions of different building layers.

The results of recent excavations reflect the exceptional strategic importance of Tell Abu Seifi, whether military, religious, or economic, as it was one of the key points and sites along the ancient Horus Military Road. Meanwhile, the Egyptian mission continues its excavation work and field studies to obtain further conclusive evidence that will definitively establish the identity of the city of Messen.
