The Palio di Siena race in Italy witnessed a serious incident during the celebratory run after the end of the competition, after a number of fans stormed the horse track and one of the spectators collided with jockey Giovanni Atzeni's horse.
Atzeni and his horse were the first to cross the finish line in the famous race held on Tuesday, before the celebratory atmosphere turned into moments of chaos and panic.
Video footage showed crowds rushing towards the horse's path during the victory parade, before a spectator got in his way, causing the horse to collide with him and knock him to the ground, while the rider was thrown into the air as a result of the impact.
The horse was quickly able to get up again, and local reports indicated that it had not suffered any injuries.
In contrast, Atzeni suffered a head injury and was taken to the hospital for tests and treatment. According to local media, his injury is minor, but he will remain under medical observation for the next few days.
