Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced plans to extend a power line from mainland Azerbaijan through Armenia to the Azerbaijani autonomous republic of Nakhchivan, located between Armenia and Iran.
Aliyev said in an interview with Azerbaijani television: "We have a project ready. I hope the Armenian side will not delay this issue either."
He pointed out that the solar power generation potential in Nakhichevan is no less than 500-1000 megawatts, so the issue of exporting also stands out.
Power lines were extended from Nakhichevan to Iran and Turkey.
The President of Azerbaijan confirmed that Baku plans to expand its electricity exports to include the European market.
This comes days after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the start of the practical implementation of the Trump International Peace and Prosperity Road project, a strategic project aimed at opening a land route between mainland Azerbaijan and the Republic of Nakhchivan, which is bordered by Armenia to the north and Iran to the south and west.
This corridor is expected to pass through Armenian territory under international supervision, as part of broader efforts to normalize relations between Baku and Yerevan after years of conflict.
